John Givez, who just dropped by on Lecrae’s surprise Church Clothes 3 mixtape, is back at the DopeHouse with the first single off the Dream Junkies‘ newly-announced album, Good Religion.

Not necessarily a rap group, the Dream Junkies is more of a collective of like-minded individuals who happen to rap together at times. Alongside Givez, fellow emcees Ruslan and Beleaf help make up the trio, and they’ve just released their stellar new single, “Take Me Back.”

Givez was one of my first discoveries when joining 2DopeBoyz, and he didn’t upset with his debut LP, Soul Rebelhighlighted by one of my underground favorites from 2015, “Elementary Trill.” Similar to that, “Take Me Back” has the SoCal trio reminiscing on the days of their youth, contrasting it with the stresses of today’s responsibilities. While it’s easy to wish for the simpler days of riding around in a homie’s whip without a worry in the world (or, with no stress compared to the stress that comes with adulthood), Givez and company realize they’re living in the present. So? “Let’s do it for the now.”
