Are you ready for a fun story?

So, the founder one of my favorite underground labels, Fresh Selects, hit me up asking me to premiere a remix to a Mndsgn remix of Kirkis’ (an affiliate of Hiatus Kaiyote) “Cold Crush.” It turns out, “Cold Crush” is already a remix — though it sounds shades different — of a Mndsgn song released a couple years ago called “kikhabits.” So here we are with a remix of “Cold Crush,” which is already a remix in it of itself, set to drop on a seven-inch vinyl along with the original song and the instrumentals of both.

Mndsgn takes “Cold Crush” — a spacious-yet-groovy, slow tempo spin on a tune with whipping drums and an insane base line — and slows it down even further than its predecessor (which, remind you, is a remix of its predecessor). But he slows it down as if you were on a spaceship traveling in hyper-speed to where you’re flying at such an insane speed, everything around you slows down and the beauty of your surroundings can be appreciated. The most fun part of the equation is the idea Mndsgn could could twist a song that completely changed the feel of one of his own songs. And to sum this experience up, the immaculate Gangsta Doodles presented the artwork in his signature drawing-on-a-post-it-format.

Head to Bandcamp to download “Cold Crush,” its Mndsgn remix and the instrumentals for both along with the seven-inch vinyl they’ll land on. Stream the remix below.
