The New York Times Magazine’s style section published a piece Tuesday evening titled “The Season’s Most Seismic Earrings, on R&B and Hip-Hop’s Rising Stars.” It detailed some of hip-hop and R ‘n’ B’s upcoming female voices and, to make it relevant to the style section, the eye-popping earrings they wear.

The magazine highlighted Tinashe, SZA, DeJ Loaf, Abra, Jean Deaux, Lord Narf and Empress Of, later bringing them all together to sing parts of “Killing Me Softly,” which 20 years ago was covered by The Fugees — one of the best groups to fuse R ‘n’ B and hip-hop.
