I wanted to hate this song, I swear I did.
I mean, come on: it’s Ray J. I mean, he has invented, invigorated, and perfected the art of the troll. I mean, his UNKUT mixtape? Have you heard the guy talk? Everything about him is akin to the weasel-esque legend Randall from Disney’s animated series Recess. So, naturally, when the email titled “RAY J RESPONDS TO KANYE WEST ON NEW SONG” flies into my inbox, I expected nothing but the absolute worst.
But you know what? This song isn’t bad at all. The song is being pushed as a “diss track,” but in actuality there’s nothing really “insulting” about it at all. It’s surprisingly smooth, and even though the lyrics teeter-totter between corny and insipid I can’t stop listening to it because of this beat. Raynathan James Winslow is still the bane of the music industry’s existence in my eyes… but he got one with this!
