There’s a reason why Azealia Banks has been quiet on the musical front (ignore the, well, everything else): embroiled in a long battle with her (now-former) label Universal Music Group, she was prevented from dropping music until her contract with them was officially over. Now that those proverbial clouds are officially over her head, she returns with a new musical drop from her forthcoming LP.
Titled Slay-Z (ha!), “The Big Beat” is its first opening salvo. Produced by An Expresso, the track channels is a return to form for Banks, who glides effortlessly and feels at home on the house-inflected track. For those who enjoyed her debut album, Broke With Expensive Taste (which, for all intents and purposes, was a great album), they will likely be excited for Slay-Z.
