Usually, the time between debuting at the DopeHouse and your next appearance isn’t more than a couple months. But in Bobby James‘ case, we don’t mind the extra wait (he dropped by in October 2014 with “Genesis“) if he’s been crafting solid tunes like his new song, “Lifted.”
From the jump, your ear is hooked after recognizing it uses the same sample from T.I. and Young Thug’s “About The Money,” only “Lifted” doesn’t develop into a banger but rather into a relaxed, soulful love song. The North Carolina native seems to draw a bit of influence in his flows from fellow statesman J. Cole, only James uses his own confidence to keep the song afloat through the catchy hook and verses.
