Malaysian songstress Yuna became a favorite for me when I unknowingly walked in on her concert in Manhattan many years ago. Since then I’ve been a fan of her understated, yet melodic, vocals and uplifting songs. Already an international star, she will release her new album Chapters on May 20th. Having already revealed an unexpected-yet-2Dope collaboration with DJ Premier, “Places To Go”, she follows that up with a duet with Usher “Crush.”
A minimalist, slow jam which sounds inspired from an old Prince & The New Power Generation session, Yuna and Usher trade verses about an adult puppy love that’s infallibly impossible to dislike. Judging from the two early singles, Chapters is shaping up to land on a couple of year-end “best of” lists.
