Since its inception over a decade ago, the mtvU Woodie Awards have been tailored to provide a spotlight for burgeoning and independent artists (read: the music supposedly for the “college radio” crowd). Originally airing during their “Spring Break” weeks (does MTV Spring Break still exist anymore?), the accompanying Woodie Awards — “the music voted best by college students,” MTV describes — has since moved over to Austin, TX’ South By Southwest Festival, and with its 2016 incarnation being hosted by A$AP Rocky the network has announced its lineup of performers.
Code-named “10 For 16,” the MTV Woodies’ stage will be taken over to provide a spotlight on “10 emerging artists.” Among those ten will be Travi$ Scott, Kehlani, Anderson .Paak (with The Free Nationals), Jidenna, and A$AP Ferg. Airing Wednesday, March 16th, at 9PM ET/PT on MTV, a promo video can be viewed below.
