Last month, Mayer Hawthorne delivered the visual for “Cosmic Love,” which is set to land on his Man About Town LP in April, but it ended with a twist — him getting knocked unconscious while investigating a home. The Michigan-born singer played a detective in the film-noir-style visual, and the follow-up dropped today.
Using the second single from Man About Town, “Love Like That,” as the backdrop, the plot thickens and intensifies in part two. “Things really heat up and take a crazy, dark turn in part 2. It’s the Empire Strikes Backof the trilogy,” Hawthorne said to Billboard, who premiered the single.
The video picks up a couple hours after the investigator was knocked out. After studying the crime scene, he goes to share the information with the lounge entertainer from part one. As the video comes to a close, another twist. (It was about as expected as Chef Curry making an uncontested three, or James Harden not playing a lick of defense, but hey, we’ll make due with it.)
