First off, Jakk Frost is dope. Like, really dope. My only gripe? He lives the life of a grizzly and randomly goes into hibernation for months at a time! C’mon man, we need that consist heat! That’s all I ask.
Living in the studio the first three and a half months of the year, Frost resurfaces with his first project of 2016. Teaming up with DJ Skizz, the Philly spitter takes the reigns on both the rhymes and production on The Beard Awakens.
“This tape was entirely produced by me,” Jakk Frost says of the tape. “I chose to use all familiar samples from the original records—all samples used by some of my favorite hiphop records. I didn’t add any drums or change the tempo. I simply picked out my favorite segments of the original records and looped them together. I feel like this tape is important to hiphop because it educates listeners on the music that actually gave birth to some of our favorite hiphop records.”
