We’re now in April, which means we’re also entering the time of the year where some of summer’s most popular songs start to get released. There’s always a couple songs that catch some delayed buzz, getting released at the end of the previous year or in the January/February months (see: Fetty Wap’s “Trap Queen”), but for the most part, April/May typically sets the tone for what will be blaring on city blocks, beaches and car rides for the next couple months.
Kali Uchis‘ new single, “Only Girl,” with its relaxed, loving vibes, plays into that role. The Colombian singer and Steve Lacy harmonize the intimate chorus, Vince Staples delivers a verse full of head-over-heals love, and it all happens over light synthesizers and slow-tempo drums from Kaytranada.
