Here is an interesting treat for J Dilla fans: alongside the Nas/Mass Appeal-reared project The Diary arriving on April 15th, Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey and Dillatronic will officially release one of his earlier posthumous projects, Jay Love Japan (an official CD version was eventually released in 2008, but quickly went out of print).
Now, the project will contain 11 tracks — including both instrumentals and vocal versions — and will be made available on both CD and vinyl on May 6th.
Jay Love Japan will also feature songs that were on the bootleg but now see an official release, such as “Sun In My Face” with Blu and a then-named Miguel Jontel. The song is a reminder of how great the man known as Johnson Barnes was when his focus was at his most laser-sharp, and that before he became a wildheart The Mighty Migs was one of the West’s best kept secrets.
Pre-order here. As a bonus, check out another track “The Look.”
