Let’s strike up a quick build here. In the past few years, when was the last time we, as rap fans, were blessed with an on-wax battle that, for better or worse, benefited the culture. Go ahead, we’ll wait.
If you mentioned that Drake versus Meek Mill “beef,” you might as well just hand over your pass now. Although it created enough buzz to get people talking — it failed to make a true impact on the culture when compared with other on-wax beefs in the past. Am I being blasé about the whole thing? Perhaps. Color me jaded. Whatever.
Nearly a month ago, Westside Gunn had a few words for Marvelous Mag and the rest of the #TheWinners clique.
Obviously, the whole thing was all in fun (Marv and Gunn are actually acquaintances in real life), and it definitely got the internets talking. Fortunately for rap fans, Marv isn’t going out without responding. As the Miami native (by way of Brooklyn) mentions: he’s “letting it be known that I have love for those, but will never allow someone to say my name and not get a response.” This is Hip-Hop.
