John Robinson is gearing up to release his Water the Plants EP on Friday. He describes the five-track experience as “a new and innovative brand focused on curating, cultivating and nurturing the growth and evolution of hip-hop culture,” and today, we have the pleasure of premiering the project’s third cut, “Intelligent Sexy.”

On its surface, the song is an enjoyable love tune about a woman Robinson fell in love with. But let the song — and theme of the project it lands on — sit for a minute, and you realize the Bronx native is talking about hip-hop as a whole. “She’s so lovely; I think of her, she think of me. Connected, so divine, is a crime to live and look and love with such keen sight?” he spits, dedicating the four-and-a-half minutes as his proposal to the culture. Robinson’s been at this for a while, and he still is showing as much love to hip-hop after being in the game so long as he did in the beginning. And that’s what people really want in a marriage, right?

Some bonus content: Robinson celebrated his birthday this weekend in New York. Here’s some footage from the performance/celebration.
