Unfortunately (maybe fortunately), I’ve never experienced Coachella. Based on reviews and the most wonderful place for raw emotion and reaction — the Internet — the festival has turned into a three-day, two-weekend joke. The particularly planned-out outfits worn by people who struggle to name three artists at the festival, taking pictures of a celebrity wearing a somewhat-similar outfit as them rubbing their last bit of cocaine on their gums. But it’s all fun, is seems. The reunions (LCD Soundsystem, Guns N Roses and NWA — kind of — this year) and surprise appearances (Kanye West, Nas) keep some people at the festival and most of the people on the Internet interested. Which is what brings me to this post.
Lost in all the big names — Kanye, Rihanna — who showed up at Coachella, Anderson .Paak brought out T.I. during his set. You thought the same thing I did: Tip and .Paak have never worked together. I know. “So why was T.I. there,” you thought. I know. And I’m here to guess one thing and one thing only: these two have something planned together. While they didn’t perform anything new — T.I. performed “About The Money” and “Bring ‘Em Out” backed by the Free Nationals — there HAD to be a reason T.I. was there, right??? .Paak is hot commodity right now, and with Tip planning to release The Dime Trap this year, I’m hype for anything these two wind up doing together.
Check out some short videos from the performances. (S/o to Pitchfork) Hopefully we get extended ones soon.
