See, we talk about the young talent from in and around Chicago a lot. It’s really hard not to. Especially when an amaglamation of youngins like these join up for a track.

You could say Joey Purp‘s been quiet over the last year, but that’s hard justify when he actually does appear. Between “Run it Up” and the “Performance Art Freestyle,” Purp has kept me engaged and excited for his next move just off sporadically ripping a couple freestyles. The rapper is planning on finally releasing his iiiDrops mixtape in May, and today, we’re graced with the first sound from the project, “CORNERSTORE” featuring Saba and theMIND.

As the song implies, Purp and Saba detail the sights and sounds surrounding a corner store and the neighborhood it inhibits: the south side of Chicago. Purp grabs Thelonious Martin for the blaring, dusty, triumphant beat with additional production from Donnie Trumpet, Peter Cottontale, J.P Floyd and Knox Fortune.

There are some who will say Joey Purp is next up, but man, this dude’s already been up. Listen to “CORNERSTORE” below.
