Although he has not released an album since 2009’s Shock Value II, Timbaland has remained incessantly busy in the years since. He has lent his talents to numerous commercials, the most recent being an advert for the 2016 NBA Playoffs, and he has provided the introductory theme music for Comedy Central’s The Daily Show. He is also primarily responsible for the musical score of FOX’ hit television series Empire, and recently released a mixtape King Stays King in late 2015.

Tim plans to change that however, as he has announced that he has scripted a “hip hop musical” based on his upcoming final album of the same name, Opera Noir. According to Pitchfork, Opera Noir — which Timbaland has been working on for years — will tell the tale of “a young musician’s rise to the top and hardships along the way—including struggles with poverty, substance abuse and crime.” He will serve as executive producer, alongside Leftfield Pictures. While there isn’t any word on the release of the project, it is no doubt an ambitious project from the producer than people may want to watch.
