Sampha – “Timmy’s Prayer”

I miss the hell outta Sampha.

Between bringing the best out of SBTRKT, Jessie Ware, Drake and, hell, even Kanye West, and delivering his own solo project with Dual, Sampha has emerged as one of the best multi-hyphenated artists around with his mix of electronic and soulful sounds with his gorgeous and embryonic voice and lyrics.

Earlier Monday, the British singer released a statement on his rather quiet presence. “I’ve had a lot to process over the last couple years, as we all have, and it’s hard to articulate,” he said. But it seems Sampha’s ready to return with those feelings on wax as he drops “Timmy’s Prayer.”

Surrounded by gospel vibes with the help of organs and overall angelic production, Sampha sings of heartbreak and loss with a sense of both mourning and hopefulness.

Whatever else is to come of Sampha’s return, “Timmy’s Prayer” is an incredible start.
