One of the first things you notice about Busdriver‘s rapping is his energy. Then comes the wordplay, poetic commentary and technicality of his never-ending bars. But sometimes you just feel like rapping about juice. And, conveniently, one of the hottest artists of the new youthful wave of hip-hop made a song called “Juice” three years ago, and the production from the tune allows Driver to the thing he’s been doing for nearly two decades: entertain with a ridiculous vigor.

Rapping quite literally about juice and how important it is (“I make fresh juice a lot,” he told me in an email), Busdriver raps bars full of kiwi, nutrients, and high energy, because, well, he needs to make sure he doesn’t get too tired while rapping all day. “I put that mint with the mango/celery sticks, some lemon for the day glow/arugula with them spinach bundles/my energy’s up so I stay in trouble,” he described as one of his meals.

On a more serious note, Busdriver said he remixed the Chance the Rapper song because “it’s a style I related to.” He said it reminded him of songs he used to do as a youth at open mic sessions. Plus, Nate Fox conveniently slid him the beat, “so, it was an organic happening.”
