The message of Skizz and Your Old Droog‘s new tune is in the title: “Listen To Jazz.” It sounds simple, but many (including myself) struggle to really take a deep dive into the genre. Seeing as it’s the basis for tons of samples used daily in hip-hop, not only would listening to more jazz help you better understand the backbone to beats you hear on a daily basis, have you ever listened to jazz and it NOT elicit some sort of emotion, whether it be calming, aggressive, angelic or whatnot?

Anyway, Your Old Droog has done his homework. On his new tune with Skizz, the Brooklyn native offers three verses centralizing around the fact he just wants to listen to jazz. It calm him. The final verse is the standout, though, as he details how and why he fell in love with the genre, eventually being led to the library to study up on the history and theory of jazz.

“Listen To Jazz” will land on Skizz’s Cruise Control LP out July 29.
