Masego is one of the more talented, young multi-instrumentalists whose buzz has built on the SoundCloud-o-sphere over the last year since joining with Medasin for the Pink Polo EP — which features the always-catchy “Girls That Dance.” But since releasing said project, the DMV native has remained quiet in terms of unleashing his bouncy, jazzy and energetic sounds to the world.

But today, his birthday no less, the slender saxophonist returns with Loose Thoughts, a collection of loosies and demos showcasing the evolution of his sound.

The Virginia native talked to Vibe, who premiered the project, about the varying styles he broaches on Loose Thoughts:

“This whole project is just how I’m feeling. I made the first half of the tape the old me. ‘Girls That Dance’ and similar songs. Pure fun. Great energy and vibe. The second half starting with ‘Small Talk’ gets into the new me.”

Masego explained the premise of the project is similar to that of Frank Ocean’s The Lonny Breaux Collection. “It felt very demo-ish but it shows [his] full capabilities and was a really cool introduction to someone,” he said.
