Desiigner is one of rap’s biggest young stars, which is crazy seeing as the hype was largely built off one song — “Panda” — which was able to reach the top of the Billboard Hot 100. The song was also able to get the rapper with a muddled voice a record deal with G.O.O.D. Music.
In a new interview with Genius, Desiigner opens up about his life before the fame — growing up in Brooklyn, getting shot as a kid and his beginnings as a rapper trying to build buzz in the streets.
He later talked about the success of “Panda” and getting into an 11-label bidding war (“Are there even 11 labels out there?” interviewer Rob Markman joked), his work ethic, his sound and working with G.O.O.D. Music.
