Elliott Trent is a young singer hailing from Columbus, Ohio, with his sites seemingly set on proving doubters from his past wrong. On his new EP, NUMB, Trent showcases nothing but unabashed confidence, but you can tell there’s a hurting drive behind his words. Whether it’s because someone broke his heart or just flat out didn’t believe in him, his current state is so thunderous and assertive because of his past.
With producer 808-H by his side, the two join to curated to create six bass-heavy, lovelorn songs with sprinkles of autotune, R ‘n’ B and trap scattered throughout. Now where the “trap soul” genre may be apt for NUMB, the overall sound has a much more grandiose feel than many like it — and that’s credit to the level of self-righteousness Trent displays.
