Last year, Equals delivered one of the more thunderous and cinematic R ‘n’ B efforts with their Old Habits EP. The title track has now gotten the remix treatment with an added verse from The Last Artful, Dodgr.

The song is brought together by the synth-filled chorus as singer Ade Omotayo preaches “old habits haunt me,” to which Dodgr enhances by stepping inside one’s battle with addiction. “Crossing the borderline, borderline depressed but we’ll ignore the fine print. It’s nonsense, no, it’s nonsense, no it’s not,” she raps, later jumping out of character for the last section of her verse: “Could you let it go if you want?”

“When they told me the track was about one’s relationship with alcohol, I couldn’t help but pull from the experiences of those around me,” Dodgr told me in an email. “I wanted to discuss the battle lots have within themselves when confronting (or denying) their alcoholism.”

Listen to the “Old Habits” remix, which has a bit of a twist on the production end from Neill Von Tally, below. Check the song on Spotify, and head to Fresh Selects’ Bandcamp to cop Equals’ EP.
