The much-maligned Chris Brown has teetered between radio dominator and asshole and everything between over the last half a decade, but every once in a while, the rampant ego gets put aside a decent song.
His latest cut, “My Friend,” sounds similar to something he could’ve recorded back in his “No Air” days and almost sounds like an enhanced version of a James Fauntleroy demo. It’s nothing wild, just calm, safe and melodic — three words I haven’t been able to describe Brown with over the past couple years.
