Over four years ago, we teamed up with our friends over at Better Beat Bureau, a Virgina-based production outfit comprised of Disko Dave and The Ologist.
This new, original series (see episode one here and episode two here) was created after I was immediately drawn in by the skills that Disko Dave possessed, including my absolute favorite (the same video which made me cave in and subscribe), “Filipremo.”
These two gifted brothers know all the right, obscure samples to dig for, chop up/loop and infuse that missing boom-bap bounce. Unfortunately, family, personal goals, school and life in general may sometimes interrupt the flow and balance, which is exactly what happened.
While the series ended rather abruptly, the two still kept a proper outflow of new music. Ologist went on to bless the DopeHouse with remixes for Chance the Rapper and Miguel (the latter being praised by the artist himself), while DD made it his mission to try and get something new off the ground, which ended up being Behind the Beats.
After some lengthy back-and-forth, the Better Beat Bureau and the DopeHouse are back with a new, reinvented series dubbed MPC Sessions. Check with us every Sunday for the next month as these two talented beatsmiths deconstruct, reconstruct and showcase their polished product.
