A week or so before Blank Face LP dropped, ScHoolBoy Q spent time in New York City promoting the album with Hot 97, Stephen Colbert and The Late Show and industry heads at an album listening party. Back in the city this week with a date on his Groovy Tony Pit Stops, Q catches up with The Breakfast Club on Power 105.

The interview kicked off with a splash of reality for the listeners from the viewpoint of artists out on the road promoting and touring: one of Q’s best friends got sentenced to 100 years in prison the day his album came out and his daughter broke her arm the day before the interview, and he had to miss all of it.

“He’s the reason I’m rapping about this content,” Q spoke of his friend, who brought ScHoolBoy under his wing in the streets. “He’s my first big homie.”

The rest of the interview touched on his album, stepping up his lyrical content (“I felt like I had to come back harder and stay focused”), the Crying MJ meme and how it’ll live forever, buckets hats and more.
