Vic Mensa recently made an appearance on Sway In The Morning on Sirius XM. To Sway’s surprise, he brought fellow SaveMoney rapper Joey Purp with him, along with a fan, Mitch, whom Vic met through Twitter DMs talking about depression.

Early last month, Vic tweeted about getting kicked off a plane on his birthday because he wanted to stay on the phone a little longer with Mitch because they were talking about their experiences with depression — something Vic has recently been open about dealing with in the three years between his last projects.

One of the connections Vic and Mitch had was not knowing their place in the world, and once Vic’s mind was set straight on his rapping abilities, he felt he could help Mitch find work through passion — something we all achieve to do. Vic figured, due to the amount of people who have found a career in hip-hop without actually rapping, he could help Mitch see if it’s place he’d like to find to work.

Additionally, Vic knew Mitch was a fan of Sway’s morning show, and he said he’d bring him on if ever given the opportunity. So this morning, Mensa, Mitch, Purp and Sway chopped it up for 45 minutes, discussing life, music, depression, friendship and more. Around the 36-minute mark, Purp and Mensa start trading bars in a freestyle for four minutes, too.

Vic didn’t have to do any of this, but it’s hella dope he’s made a friendship and inspired people over something so intimate and dark.
