Jean Grae Shares “What You Came For” In Collaboration w/ Black Panther Comic

Throughout the release of the latest string of Black Panther comics, Marvel has released visuals along with the issues, narrated by the comics’ author, Ta-Nehisi Coates, explaining the details and inspiration behind the plot.

The latest video covers Issue #3 and features a new song by Jean Grae called “What You Came For,” which was “inspired by now” and released in collaboration with the comic series.

“Tell ’em what you came for,” Grae chants throughout the song, bending her lyrics of empowerment and righteousness around Quelle Chris warping, head-bobbing production. Though my knowledge of the Black Panther brand is minimal, it’s easy to see, especially through Coates’ narration and the plot summary in the video, “What You Came For” only enhances the themes of the series.

Issue #4 is available for purchase on Marvel Comics’ website today (July 27), and you can stream “What You Came For” below. Cop the song on Bandcamp.
