We at the DopeHouse have come to gravitate toward Nick Grant for his refreshingly slick bars — but much of the music has boiled down to just that: raps. (This isn’t a bad thing at all. Fans will eventually come for the bars if they’re poignant and there.) But his newest tune, “Get Up,” will pull the rapper closer toward a mainstream audience. (Again, not a bad thing.)
“Get Up” features the commanding voice Watch the Duck‘s Jesse Rankins on the hook and production from Karriem Riggins.
The song sounds like it’d fit in the opening credits of a Spike Lee movie from the 90s — while the characters are getting introduced in the beginning-of-the-movie routine. And I have a feeling once I dive into The Get Down, “Get Up” will sound like it should be on the show’s soundtrack.
