There are some artists who go about their lives just like you and I, watching the same TV shows and eating the same food — they just live on a national platform and make art for a living. Scotty ATL‘s life, while it may fit that mold at times, can’t help but be different than yours and mine.

As highlighted on his last release, “Bye Bye” with Ty Dolla $ign, he’s lost nine close friends and family members — including Bankroll Fresh and four people in four weeks — this year. He’s constantly hurt, and he’s coping through rapping.

His new project, Daily Bread, recorded through his tumultuous year arrived today. It’s inspired by tragedy, and shared with hope.

“It feels wonderful to get this project out of my body, mind, and spirit. I had to overcome a lot just to get it out,” he told XXL, who premiered the project. “With this particular project I wanted for people to see my growth as an artist and as a lyricist, I wanted my fans to be able to follow the story of who I am as a person and I what went through. Some people didn’t want me to pull these stories out, some wanted me to go the regular route and put out a hot album with singles.”

Outside of Ty$, Jay Dot Rain (“So High“) and Kissie Lee join Scotty on the 11-track project.
