Pac DiV — a trio of rappers out of Southern California who’ve came up with the likes of DJ Dahi, Casey Veggies, TiRon & Ayomari and others — haven’t released new content in about four years. For a while, it was hard to understand why LIKE, Mibbs and BeYoung stopped working together just as they were hitting their stride, but four years later — with the trio having plans to drop music again soon — you realize it was important for their artistic development.

And none of the three reaped benefits more than LIKE did.

He found himself producing for Kendrick Lamar, Anderson .Paak and others, picking up a Grammy nomination along the way for his work on good kid, m.a.a.d. city.

He’s released a couple beat tapes — Zesty and Emeralds — over the years, but he arrives today with his debut album, Songs Made While High.

The project lasts 14 songs and is completely self-produced. Anderson .Paak (“Mission Road“), Kali Uchis (“Blah Loops“) and Buddy (“Time Is Money”) assist LIKE along the way.

He left a note on Bandcamp explaining why it took four years to drop a solo album and the inspiration behind it.

“It takes me a long time to create. Especially when I thrive on inspiration. I need the experiences of life to help push me artistically. The reason I titled this album ‘Songs Made While High’ wasn’t because I’m a pseudo-druggy (I only smoke weed and occasionally take shrooms). As cliche as it may sound, music gets me high. I’m addicted to sounds and melodies, Chords and samples- colors and soundscapes my brother and I heard growing up in church; or cleaning our parents home Saturday mornings (mom always played Sade and Anita baker). My dad always played and sang beautiful songs on his upright piano. I want to thank everyone who played a hand in developing this project with me, it’s my first & hopefully not my last.”
