Young M.A‘s ascent this year has been pretty meteoric. It’s not quite that of fellow Brooklyn native Desiigner, who had his debut single reach No. 1 in the Billboard charts and hover around the top for historic amount of time.

M.A, though, has found a nice lane of her own. “OOOUUU” has breached the Top 30, and, as Noisey points out, it’s gotten “12,000 radio spins and gets a million views a day on YouTube,” which also isn’t too bad for your debut single.

The Brooklynite is the latest subject in the Noisey Raps series, where Noisey shoots short documentaries of bubbling artists around the world.

In the six-minute episode, M.A discusses losing her brother, who helped inspire her to rap, when she was 17, coming out of the closet, her plans to stay independent and more.
