It’s been a minute since we’ve heard from Jon Waltz, but the DopeHouse favorite is back!

After releasing his Alyss EP back in October of 2014, Waltz went quiet — only dropping a pair of solo songs and appearing on tracks alongside Rome Fortune, Mulherin, and Matt Champion in the year and a half that followed. Then, in March, he resurfaced with “Justified” — but the return didn’t last long, as the Memphis native was back in the shadows in no time.

Now, with Zane Lowe and Beats 1 in his corner, Jon Waltz makes his official return with his new single, “Riot.”

“‘Riot’ started as a song about rich kids in Calabasas — affluent minorities conscious about being affluent minorities — and then turned into a song about generational values and internal conflict,” Waltz shared with The FADER. “It’s about who I was five years ago versus who I am today. I had a moment last week where I said to myself, ‘This really sounds like the song I needed to hear when I was younger.'”
