Alternative Hip-Hop/Rock band Twenty One Pilots — whose album BLURRYFΛCE went 2x platinum — saw their profile rise tremendously this year after landing a placement on the Suicide Squad OST, with their song “Heathens” charting at #2 on the Billboard 100.

While working out West in L.A. for Dr. Dre’s Compton: A Soundtrack, a close friend of DJ Premier put the legendary producer on to the Columbus, Ohio duo and immediately purchased BLURRYFΛCE and dug what he heard, particularly the single “Lane Boy.”

As Premo revealed to Complex, who premiered the Preemix:

I bought BLURRYFΛCE and liked it immediately, so I started looking for videos as well. I saw the “Lane Boy” video and loved the concept of the song and video. It’s about refuting the idea that artists should stay in a “lane,” or be defined by a particular style or sound. “Lane Boy” is the song I wanted to remix. They sent me the stems and said to rock out with it. The Preemix is now official.
