Of all the fame Lin-Manuel Miranda has earned from his critically acclaimed Hamilton Broadway play, it seems he’s waited to cash it in until this new mixtape.
Miranda’s new 23-track The Hamilton Mixtape brings together some of rap’s and R&B’s biggest stars over the last two decades for covers and songs inspired by the Hamilton soundtrack.
The mixtape brings together The Roots, Busta Rhymes and Joell Ortiz on one song (“My Shot“), Nas, Dave East, Miranda and Aloe Blacc on another (“Wrote My Way Out“). Miguel, Sia and Queen Latifah join for a cover one minute (“Satisfied“), then Chance the Rapper and Francis and the Lights put their spin on the play’s closing number (“Dear Theodosia (Reprise)“).
Then there’s songs from Andra Day, Jill Scott, Alicia Keys, John Legend, Ashanti & Ja Rule (“Helpless“), more from The Roots, Usher and tons of other.
I don’t even know if DJ Khaled could bring all this talent together, but Miranda is at a place where he can.
