Although he is experiencing unprecedented Billboard success now, perhaps things would have been different for The Weeknd had he and fellow streaming Sith Lord Drake had never met.

Back when Abel was an enigmatic musician with a penchant for crafting hauntingly engaging (albeit self-destructive) songs who rarely showed his face in the public, Aubrey had ascended to the upper echelon of rap royalty thanks to the success of Thank Me Later. The two would connect during Drake’s Take Care Sessions, ultimately crafting the song “Crew Love.”

Now, the reference version of that song has surfaced. Sans Drake, The Weeknd’s parts remain mostly the same as the final version, but he adds some lines and ad-libs where Drake’s lyrics would ultimately end up. The song can be heard here.
