This year saw the clashing of Wyclef Jean and Young Thug — something we may not have expected but something that seems completely reasonable and makes sense once we give it a little thought and hear the music.
The two first worked together on Thugger’s Jeffrey mixtape, where Jean had a song named after him then featured on a song called “Kanye West.” Then Thug returned the favor and appeared on Wyclef’s “I Swear,” which will most likely land on his next project.
Wyclef explained how “I Swear” came together.
“The vibes were so strong after he played me some more material and I could feel his pure songwriter style” Wyclef told Billboard about meeting Young Thug. “I understood how talented this young man is and I felt ‘I Swear’ would be a great way for us to do something different, something fresh and new. We mixed 1997 with 2017. I call it ‘over turn’ — that’s when the ‘turn up’ is on overdrive.”
The video sees Wyclef and Thug performing the song in a sandstorm amidst a narrative of Wyclef on a mission to safe Thugger’s girlfriend, Jerrika Karlae, from an assassin.
