Last year over the course of a month, we learned what each four members of the Gorillaz had been up to since their escape from Plastic Beach, with the group’s official Twitter account declaring “The Gang Is Back” last week.
While we wait for new music, Damon Albarn, the group’s creator, has shared a mix of music of women who’ve inspired the sound of the next Gorillaz album.
“In search of new sounds and new inspiration, I found these kick-ass women who in their own individual ways are true pioneers in the writing, production and creation of MUSIC,” Albarn said on SoundCloud. “They have inspired me, and I hope they inspire you too.”
The mix includes music from Kali Uchis (“Ridin Around“), Abra (“Vegas”), Hiatus Kaiyote (“Molasses”), Grimes (“Realiti”), Empress Of (“Woman is a Word”) and others. It’s titled “Noodle,” named after the group’s only female member.
