Over the weekend, a video featuring Kim Burrell giving a homophobic sermon surfaced. She said homosexuality is “perverted,” later clarifying that she feels homosexuality is a sin toward God.
Burrell was recently featured on Frank Ocean’s Blonde on the song “Godspeed,” a gospel song looking back and wishing himself luck in his ventures. Frank is openly gay, which makes taking a check for helping write music with Frank wildly hypocritical, on top of the opinion just being poisonous itself.
Frank’s mom took notice, wondering on Twitter (which Ocean doesn’t have) if her son could remove Burrell from his album.
Me: Son, can we crop Kim Burrells voice out of your song??

I mean damn. Hypocrisy and the inciting of hate pisses me off. Opportunistic &?%#€!!

Not a bad idea.
Burrell was also removed from Pharrell and Janelle Monáe’s performance on Ellen of a song from the Hidden Figures soundtrack, which will air on television on Tuesday.
