The wait, though it surprisingly came to an end in 2014, between D’Angelo’s last two albums — Voodoo and Black Messiah — was 14 years. So next time you complain about your favorite artist not releasing an album while in his prime for a couple years, know it could’ve been more sufferable.
It seems, though, we won’t have to wait nearly as long for the next record from D’Angelo.
According to OnSMASH, D’Angelo’s management company, KWL Management, posted a picture on Instagram of the neo-soul singer with the caption: “Ready for another D’Angelo album? Might be coming sooner than you think! On the way.”
It has since been changed to “What your favorite D’Angelo album? #legend,” we assume to backtrack from releasing any hints a D’Angelo album is coming. Because the Internet is so quick, though, it’s a little late for that. The comments also read as if the first caption was present for a while before it was changed.
As he often is, D’Angelo was quiet last year. He did offer a touching tribute to Prince — one of his biggest influences — on The Tonight Show and performed at The Roots Picnic.
