With its debut on Dash Radio in December 2016, my Left Coast collective and I been able to be creatively expansive with our musical selections on Left Coast Radio. As we are not limited to the “rules” of terrestrial radio, we’re able to showcase our range and musical tastes. Our fourth episode is an example of that.
The Coast and I decided to focus on the musical catalogs of four specific labels: Bad Boy, Cash Money (you know, before everything fell apart), Roc-A-Fella Records, and Ruff Ryders. My set, in particular, was for the Roc, and I decided to do a throwback mix from the label’s heyday.
Due to time constraints for Left Coast Radio, my mix was only 35 minutes. However, my set was actually an hour and ranged from JAY Z and State Property to a pre-Kardashian Kanye West and a pre-broken up Diplomats. I also threw in samples (I was asked to bring back the old Meka’s Soul Mix Show era), acapella blends and more for good measure.
Left Coast Radio airs every Friday night at 10pm EST (7pm PST) on Dash Radio‘s XXL station.
