Two of Joey Bada$$’s most recent singles — “Devastated” and “Land Of The Free” — couldn’t have really been more different. One was an obvious gravitation to the mainstream, where the latter dove deep into the Pro Era member’s conscious and wise roots.

His new single, “Victory,” released in preparation for Bada$$’s promotional run at NBA All-Star Weekend, seems to mesh the two worlds well. Bada$$ links with Mtn Dew for the song, which is confident and simple in message but witty and layered.

“I’m excited to be a part of The Courtside Project,” Bada$$ told Billboard, who premiered the single. “It’s the fusion of several different worlds — from basketball to music, style and art — that are not all separate streams anymore, they are interconnected. I always want to encourage the youth to be themselves and pursue their dreams, whether those are hoop dreams, Grammy dreams or PhD dreams.”

The Courtside Project is an initiative by Mtn Dew that will host a three-on-three basketball between Russell Westbrook, Kyrie Irving and others during All-Star Weekend.

“Victory” features endless basketball references from Russell Westbrook and his triple-double(-entendres), putting numbers on the board and an overall sense of winning. It’s produced by Kirk Knight and Adam Pallin.
