You’ve heard Phoelix‘s music before. The Chicago producer has worked alongside Saba (Bucket List Project), Noname (Telefone) and others over the last couple years, but he’s slowly beginning venturing out on his own. Today, he arrives at the DopeHouse with “Romans 7:21.”

The bible verse the song is named after reads, “So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me.” The song echoes that as Phoelix totes the line between wanting to better the world and himself and having an opposite force drag him down.

“I think every day I struggle with my ‘demons.” It’s a never ending battle between choosing to do the right thing,” Phoelix said in a press email. “There is always the option of giving in to the detrimental things my flesh allows me to believe is okay. But the fork in the road is where I feel a lot of us find ourselves on a daily basis.”
