John Legend had a starring role in La La Land — the movie that won the most (and was nominated for the most) awards at last night’s Academy Awards. Per tradition at the award show, all the song that were nominated for the Best Original Song category were performed, and instead of leading actors Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone performing the songs (because of their singing abilities, but let’s not get into that), co-star John Legend took their place.

Two songs from La La Land, “City of Stars” and “Audition (The Fools Who Dream),” were nominated for Best Original Song, so Legend performed a medley of them while dancers pranced around a park setting surrounding his piano. “City of Stars” ultimately won the award over Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop The Feeling” and others.
