Back when The Get Down — a show based on the beginnings of hip-hop in the late 1970s in New York City — premiered on Netflix last year, it only came with six episodes with the show soon announcing the second half of the season would come at a later time.

A couple weeks ago, it was revealed part two of The Get Down‘s first season would drop April 7, and now, the season’s first trailer has arrived.

The trailer plays out like an episode of Inside the Music, following The Get Down Brothers in their ascension into the mainstream all while clashing with the disco era. (Yes, you hear 6LACK in the trailer. It’s his and Malay’s “Shaolin’s Theme/Pray” from the original soundtrack.) Netflix describes the new season better than I can:

“A mythic saga of dreams, desire, soul and sound, The Get Down chronicles the epic musical evolution from disco to hip hop that defined 1970s New York City – as told by the relationships, struggles, triumphs, and artistry of the South Bronx teens who saw it through.”
