It should come as no surprise that Chicago has an abiding love for jazz music. To pull an incredible quote from Marquis Hill’s personal bio, the Windy City “has long been a major jazz cradle,” helping give rise to revered jazz legends including Herbie Hancock, Ramsey Lewis and Benny Goodman; with artists like Donnie Trumpet (apologies, Nico Segal) and Marquis Hill rounding out the pack of contemporary artists leading the pack of continuing the jazz traditions.
During a quick visit to his Chicago home, Marquis got together with a group of friends for an unscripted jam session, assembling the likes of Joel Ross, Junius Paul, Makaya McCraven and spoken-word artist Harold Green III — who covered Chance the Rapper‘s “Lost” a few years back — and record a vibrant cover of Tiffany Gouche’s “Fantasy.”
Watch it up top.
