From personal experience the Red Bull Music Academy month is, arguably, one of the best times in New York City. For 30 straight days the RBMA hosts concerts, panels, exhibits, parties and more which span across a multitude of musical genres. In recent times I attended a sound clash where Just Blaze brought out Freeway and Cam’ron to perform (and lost when Robin S. came out to perform “Show Me Love“), and sat in as Nelson George — and Questlove — interviewed a then-reclusive D’Angelo several months before he released Black Messiah.

The 2017 incarnation is looking to be great also, as Solange, Gucci Mane, Teddy Riley, Just Blaze and several others will host events throughout the city.

Following an interview with Riley, Just — along with Kid Capri and Brucie B — will host a throwback party dedicated to all things New Jack Swing. Meanwhile, Solange will unveil An Ode To, an “interdisciplinary performance piece and meditation examining themes” of her critically acclaimed album A Seat at the Table at the Guggenheim Museum. Finally, Gucci Mane and producer Zaytoven will perform throwback piano bar renditions of some of their most famous tunes — voice (Gucci) and piano (Zaytoven) only.

Tickets for the various events are on sale now.
