Harmonious Monk are a Los Angeles-based quartet of musicians who are intent on revivifying the perfectly meshed sounds of jazz and Hip-Hop. Made up of MC Martin (vocals), Trevor Zemtseff (drums), Cooper Holzman (keys) and John Mietus (bass), the jazz-hop revivalist outfit cite artists and groups like A Tribe Called Quest, Thelonious Mon, John Coltrane and Mos Def as influences.
Earlier this year, Harmonious Monks launched their ongoing Freestyle Friday series, showcasing MC Martin’s penchant for off-the-top freestyling over the group’s live instrumentation, utilizing improvisation as a base tool for their sessions.
