J. Cole Previews Unreleased Song In ‘4 Your Eyez Only’ Documentary

In between the weekend’s rather entertaining activities, from Couchella to the NBA Playoffs to the NHL Playoffs, J. Cole debuted his second special for HBO, based on his 2016 album 4 Your Eyez Only.

The documentary gave viewers a look into the making of his now-platinum (and counting) album, but also followed Cole as he explored the humanity of the Black community as well as its struggles via vignettes on various citizens of the country.

A bonus, however, was when Cole premiered a thus-far unreleased track on the documentary—which finds the Fayetteville emcee questioning faith with potent lines like…

Sometimes I think that these verses can help a person
Way more than the ones they readin’ in churches on days of worship
No disrespect to the Lord and Savior, that ain’t just ego
I just observe that them words no longer relate to people
